Paediatric Orthotic Partnerships
Our orthotic service is set up to specifically meet the needs of children and young people looking to source their orthotics privately. It is run by Matt Hughes and Kim Pickering from Dorset Orthopaedic www.dorset-ortho.com/ along with one of our specialist occupational therapists.
The orthotic clinic complements the existing therapy services at our Poole Road Clinic. This gives us the oppotunity to allow other clinicians to attend the appointments; for example it may be helpful to have one of our physios attend with the family so that a multidisciplinary approach can be taken.
Matthew Hughes, is a highly experienced paediatric clinician will regularly visits Total Children's Therapy to assess, cast and fit a whole variety of orthotic aids. Matt has a wide range of experience and is happy to assess (and if required follow up) children with both long term conditions and also those who are having issues with regards to growth spurts or recurrent sports injuries. Matthew is able to prescribe and fit a large variety of splints and insoles including DAFO’s, SAFO’s, AFO’s and dynamic Lycra orthoses.
Kim Pickering qualified with a degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics in 1998. She is registered with the Health Professions council and has worked as an orthotist for 16 years. She has a keen interest in paediatrics and has experience working in a variety of the hospitals in London and the South East and more recently worked as the orthotist at Poole hospital for 10 years. She has completed many post graduate training sessions in paediatrics. She now works as part of the team at Dorset Orthopaedic in Ringwood and is looking forward to working with Total Children’s therapy to provide their orthotic service.
We can also offer a regular bespoke hand splinting clinic at Total Children’s Therapy run by one of our specialist occupational therapists.
