The TCT Bike Group is designed to help children who have difficulties learning to ride their bikes.
It is primarily aimed at children who are really keen to learn to ride their bikes independently but maybe due to dyspraxia or more general difficulty with co-ordinating have trouble doing so.
The groups run in the Easter and Summer school holidays at Courthill First School, Parkstone, Poole.
We have a maximum of 6 children per session (minimum age of 7 years) and 4 supervisors including at least two chartered physiotherapists. All staff are CRB checked. (Plus parents in attendance for any who wish to stay)
The group runs for an hour and a half each morning over four consecutive days (if the weather is kind) following a graded structured
programme with day by day progression and a combination of group and individual tasks. Great care is taken to integrate all the children into the group and special consideration is given to those children who struggle with social interaction. We encourage the children to support each other over the week and love to see the genuine pleasure on their faces as they and the others start to gain new skills.
Each child must provide their own bike (in good working order) and helmet.
We also ask that the child's feet, when sitting on the saddle, can easily touch the floor and that they wear long sleeves and trousers or ¾ trousers even when it is warm.
With parental consent, we try and photograph some of the children's highlights.
